Finesse (Bitstream Fonts)
Common Questions and Answers
4/21/92
1) If a typeface still does not show under the Text option after running
Bitstream Fontware to make fonts, make sure the corresponding display
fonts were also created. Finesse will only recognize fonts which have
both printer and display fonts physically present in the
\GEMAPPS\FONTS directory.
Also, make sure the printer and display fonts which were created in
Bistream Fontware match the printer and display type which was initially
installed for Finesse. (i.e. Do not create additional typefaces for the
HP Laser Jet Plus if Finesse is installed with the HP Laser Jet II
driver.)
If the symptom still persists, boot-up the system clean leaving only
FILES=20 and BUFFERS=20 in the CONFIG.SYS file and only the mouse driver
in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Also, try deleting the files in the \GEMAPPS
\FONTS directory by typing the following command if Finesse is installed
in drive C:
erase c:\gemapps\fonts\*.inf
2) If the system hangs when running the Make Fonts option in Bitstream
Fontware check for the following:
a) Make sure you have at least 512 KB of free RAM (run CHKDSK to
check how much RAM space is available prior to running Fontware.
b) The DOS version is later than 3.10
c) Make sure no RAM-resident programs loading in CONFIG.SYS and/or
AUTOEXEC.BAT are interfering - try booting without any resident
software.
